Bulgaria Experiences Europe's Highest Fuel Price Spike

JAKARTA - Vehicle fuel prices in Bulgaria jumped 26.1 percent year-on-year (year-on-year/yoy) in June 2026, and were recorded as the highest increase in Europe.

This was revealed in RIA Novosti's analysis of Eurostat data on Wednesday (22/7). Eurostat is the official statistical body of the European Union based in Luxembourg.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Finland became the second country with the highest increase in vehicle fuel prices, namely 23.9 percent yoy. Lithuania followed in third place with a jump of 23.8 percent.

The types of fuels that recorded the highest price increases in the three countries include gasoline, diesel and gas.

A number of other European countries that also experienced a significant increase in fuel prices are Romania (23.6 percent), Luxembourg (22.3 percent), Greece (21.9 percent), Cyprus (20.0 percent), Belgium (20.3 percent), France (20.1 percent), and Northern Macedonia (19.7 percent).

One of the reasons for the price surge was the rise in the world crude oil price amid the escalation of the conflict between Iran and the United States (US) which has been going on since February.

Most recently, global crude oil prices jumped more than 3 percent on Wednesday (22/7) trading, with Brent crude prices breaking through $94.09 per barrel.
