Hotman Paris Resigns as Febrie Adriansyah's Lawyer, Here's the Reason

JAKARTA - Prominent lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea officially resigned from his position as a lawyer for the former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney General's Office, Febrie Adriansyah. The decision was made because Hotman wanted to focus on recovering from the post-operative health of the pinched nerve that he had just undergone in Singapore.

"I have told my client, Febrie, now the former Jampidsus, that I have resigned," said Hotman Paris in Jakarta, Thursday.

According to Hotman, his health condition has not fully recovered after undergoing a pinched nerve surgery on July 9, 2026. Even though he had returned to carrying out professional activities, the crowded work made the pain he was experiencing reappear.

He revealed that the doctor who treated him had given instructions that he should not work for two weeks to speed up the recovery process.

"The doctor's letter clearly instructs that he should not work for two weeks. Only four days ago I felt more sick," said Hotman.

Hotman Paris's Reason for Stepping Down from Febrie Adriansyah's Legal Team

Hotman explained that the decision to withdraw as Febrie Adriansyah's lawyer was purely based on health considerations and was not related to the substance of the case that his client was facing.

According to him, Febrie Adriansyah understands and accepts the decision well.

"He can understand, it's okay. He's my friend and understands my condition," said Hotman.

Even though he resigned, Hotman ensured that Febrie Adriansyah's legal team would continue to run and would continue to provide the necessary legal assistance.

Massagus Farizi Still Accompanying Febrie Adriansyah

Regarding his replacement, Hotman said that Massagus Farizi was still acting as Febrie Adriansyah's lawyer along with other legal advisory teams.

"There is a lawyer, Mr. Farizi. He is a senior prosecutor. He used to work with me and there was another team," he said.

Previously, on July 17, 2026, Hotman Paris announced that he had received a power of attorney from Febrie Adriansyah to provide legal assistance in the investigation process of the alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU) case related to the handling of the PT Asabri case for the period 2020-2024 by the Attorney General's Office.

However, less than two weeks after receiving the power of attorney, Hotman decided to end his involvement in the defense team because he had to prioritize the process of recovering his health.
