Analyst Urges Transparent Probe into Febrie Adriansyah Case, Calls for Harsh Penalty if Convicted

JAKARTA - Political observer Karyono Wibowo urges law enforcement officials to demand a heavy sentence for former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah if he is proven guilty in the alleged corruption and money laundering cases (TPPU).

According to him, the handling of the case must be carried out transparently in order to maintain public confidence in law enforcement.

The Director of the Indonesian Public Institute (IPI) assessed that the alleged involvement of law enforcement officials in corruption and TPPU cases was a serious problem because it concerned the integrity of institutions that should be the front line in eradicating corruption.

"The involvement of law enforcement officials in the whirlpool of organized crime on a massive scale is a betrayal of the constitution and hurts public justice," Karyono said in a written statement on Monday, July 20.

According to Karyono, the alleged practice of money laundering by state organizers is a form of extraordinary crime (extraordinary crime) which not only has an impact on state losses, but also damages the credibility of law enforcement agencies.

"This matter not only harms the state's finances, but also damages the dignity of law enforcement institutions which should be the front line in eradicating corruption in Indonesia. Therefore, the law should not be selective and the proof process must be carried out transparently," he said.

He asked law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate all parties suspected of being involved, including the intellectual actors behind the case, and to implement the provisions of the TPPU Law to the maximum extent possible if the elements of the case are proven.

Karyono also invited the public and anti-corruption institutions to continue to monitor the handling of cases so that they run independently, free from conflicts of interest, and ensure accountability for law enforcement.

"I appeal to all elements of society and anti-corruption institutions to continue to monitor this case so that its handling is free from conflicts of interest and guarantees accountability in fair law enforcement," he said.
