DENPASAR - The Denpasar Police have examined a member of the Traffic Unit who is suspected of being involved in the issuance of driving permits (SIM) outside the procedure after a video circulated on social media regarding the alleged extortion of SIM production.
Head of Traffic Police, Polresta Denpasar, Kompol Muhammad Bhayangkara Putra Sejati, said an internal investigation was carried out immediately after the video went viral on social media.
"We will not tolerate any form of violation committed by members. Currently, the officers are undergoing internal examination by Propam Polresta Denpasar. If it is proven that they have committed violations, the person concerned will be subject to sanctions in accordance with the applicable provisions," he said as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 14.
Based on the results of the investigation, the SIM applicant who was seen in the video came to the Denpasar Police SIM Satpas with a colleague who was suspected of having coordinated with an officer to help the process of issuing SIM A outside the existing service mechanism.
According to Bhayangkara, this action is contrary to the standard operating procedures for SIM services at the Denpasar Police Satpas.
He added, the member with the initials DL who was suspected of being involved has now undergone an examination by the Professional and Security Section (Propam) of the Denpasar Police. If proven guilty, the person concerned will be subject to sanctions in accordance with the provisions.
In addition to checking the members, the Denpasar Police also investigated the alleged extortion attempt by two people who claimed to be journalists from outside Bali.
The Head of Traffic Police admitted that he was contacted several times by the two after the video went viral.
According to him, the two people were suspected of offering to delete news or videos that had been uploaded in exchange for a certain amount of money. The offer was rejected because the Denpasar Police were committed to resolving the issue in accordance with legal procedures.
The Head of Traffic Police emphasized that his party would follow up on the alleged intimidation and money requests according to the legal mechanism, in addition to continuing to process members who were suspected of violating the law.
As an evaluation step, the Denpasar Police Satlantas will tighten supervision of all SIM service processes, improve internal supervision, and ensure that services to the public are transparent, professional, accountable, and free from illegal collection practices.
The public is also urged to follow all stages of making a SIM according to official procedures and not to use intermediaries or ask for help from other parties outside the established mechanism.
Regarding the two people who claimed to be journalists, Bhayangkara said based on information received by investigators, the two were also suspected of being related to the alleged intimidation and persecution case which is still being handled by the Kuta Police.
"The case is still under investigation in accordance with applicable laws," he said.
