JAKARTA - The Press Council officially gave a mandate to the Public Broadcasting Institution (LPP) of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) to hold a Cyber Journalist Competency Test (UKW).

The submission of the license decision letter (SK) was carried out by the Member of the Press Council, Maha Eka Swasta, to the President Director of the RRI LPP, Hendrasmo, at the RRI Headquarters, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (7/7/2026).

With this new license, RRI officially joins the ranks of testing institutions that have the authority of the Press Council to carry out Cyber UKW throughout Indonesia. This step also strengthens RRI's role in improving the professionalism of the press in the digital era.

RRI Cyber UKW Module Becomes National Standard

Member of the Press Council, Maha Eka Swasta, explained that this license was granted after RRI successfully compiled a Cyber Journalist Competency Test module that met the strict standards of the Press Council. Interestingly, this module can also be used by other testing institutions.

"The ratification of this license has an important meaning for the RRI LPP and for strengthening the national press ecosystem," said Maha Eka.

Focus on Building Human Capital in the Middle of Limitations

LPP RRI President Director, Hendrasmo, expressed deep appreciation for the trust given by the Press Council. He emphasized that improving the quality of human resources (HR) remains RRI's top priority, even though it is faced with financial challenges.

"Even though our budget is limited, there are values that we continue to fight for, including building our human capital," said Hendrasmo.

Until now, the collaboration between RRI and the Press Council has managed to certify around 960 journalists and broadcasters. This figure includes more than half of the total journalists who are under the RRI umbrella.

RRI Multiplatform Transformation and Dominate the Radio Market

As the only institution that holds radio journalist competence certification in Indonesia, RRI continues to spur its transformation into a multiplatform media without losing its identity as a public radio.

This digital transformation strategy has proven to yield positive results:

Market Dominance: Based on the AC Nielsen survey, RRI managed to control 46 percent of the national radio audience share, making it the radio station with the largest audience in Indonesia. Reliable Source: In the midst of the rapid flow of digitalization, RRI is considered to consistently maintain the quality of journalism and become a credible information reference for the community. Parliamentary Appreciation: The success of this transformation also received praise from Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives in the Hearing (RDP).

This recognition from various parties is a tangible proof that the RRI digitalization step not only expands the reach of services, but also boosts the competitiveness of national broadcasting media in the digital arena.
