JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung brought an investment agenda to the development of public transportation when he met with Singapore's Minister of National Development Chee Hong Tat and Singapore's Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan in Singapore on June 14-15, 2026.

The meeting, which took place in the RISING Fellowship series, was part of the DKI Provincial Government's efforts to expand international cooperation ahead of Jakarta's 500th anniversary. The focus of discussion includes investment, urban area development, public transportation, to capacity building for the apparatus.

Pramono assessed that Singapore is still one of the important strategic partners for Jakarta, especially in supporting the transformation of the capital into a more competitive global city.

"Jakarta is preparing a new leap towards the age of 500 years. For this reason, we need more strategic partnerships and investments that can accelerate the transformation of the city. This meeting with the Singapore Government opens up opportunities for more concrete cooperation in the fields of transportation, area development, capacity building for apparatus, to investments that provide direct benefits for Jakarta residents," said Pramono, Wednesday, June 17.

According to Pramono, Jakarta not only needs new investments, but also experience and best practices in managing modern cities. Therefore, cooperation with Singapore is considered important to accelerate the development of an integrated area with public transportation and improve the quality of urban services.

During the meeting with Chee Hong Tat, one of the topics discussed was the development of a city based on public transportation, the regeneration of areas, public spaces, as well as investment opportunities that can encourage Jakarta's economic growth.

"Our target is not just to enter the Top 50 Global Cities. More importantly, we ensure that investments, public transportation, and the development of the area really make the lives of Jakarta residents easier, more comfortable, and more productive," said Pramono.

Meanwhile, Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan assessed that Jakarta and Singapore's relations have been closely intertwined, not only through government cooperation, but also through the increasing mobility of the two cities' people.

"Jakarta is a city with tremendous energy and dynamism. More than 200 flight services every week connect Singapore and Jakarta, reflecting the warmth and closeness of people-to-people relations. Governor Pramono and I had a good discussion about how the two cities can do more cooperation, including in the fields of urban governance and sustainability," said Vivian.

The DKI Provincial Government hopes that strengthening relations with Singapore can open up greater investment opportunities while accelerating a number of city development agendas. In addition to the transportation sector and the development of the area, cooperation is also aimed at strengthening connectivity and increasing Jakarta's competitiveness at the global level.
