JAKARTA - Government spokesman for the handling of COVID-19 Achmad Yurianto (Yuri) explained the progress of the case as of Tuesday, May 12 at 12.00 WIB. There were an additional 338 confirmed positive cases today. The total number of positive cases became 12,776 people.

Even so, there was good news received. The number of recovered cases has outperformed the death cases. There were an additional 182 patients recovered, bringing the total to 3,063 patients. Meanwhile, 16 patients died, bringing it to 1,007 patients.

"There are a lot of positive cases at the age of under 45 years, or 45 to 60 years. However, if we look at the data, the most deaths are at the age of 45 to 60 years, and 60 years and over," said Yuri in press conference at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, Tuesday, 12 May.

Then, the addition of the number also occurred in patient data under surveillance (PDP) with a total of 32,147 people. Meanwhile, the cases of people under monitoring (ODP) increased to 251,861.

The saliva specimen test (swab) or Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and the rapid molecular test (TCM) were carried out as many as 165,128 examinations. The number of cases examined was 119,728 people.

Yuri realized that people aged 45 years and under are productive workers. In addition to having high immunity to survive COVID-19, they also become a source of hope for their families to survive.

This, said Yuri, was the basis for the plan of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 to provide opportunities for citizens under 45 to continue working so that the government could reduce the number of layoffs (PHK).

However, during the status of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), Yuri said that this did not mean that the government completely freed them from leaving their homes to work, but also did not restrain them.

"However, the interests of PSBB are interests that we must protect together and then need to be rethought," said Yuri.

Therefore, the age group under 45 who is planned to be given the opportunity to work is only allowed in the job field that is desired in the context of the implementation of PSBB by each region.

"Of course, the local government has determined which industry it is possible to implement. For example, the provision of basic goods is related to the delivery of basic goods transportation and so on," concluded Yuri.
