JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded to the reactions of a number of residents regarding the Transjabodetabek tariff increase due to subsidies starting to burden the DKI Provincial Government. Where, residents suggest that the regional government should help finance the Transjabodetabek subsidy.
Pramono also opened the door for the agglomeration local government to contribute to the financing of the TransJabodetabek service. According to him, transportation connecting Jakarta with the surrounding area is not only the capital's need, but also the common need of the agglomeration area.
"If there is (a buffer regional government) who wants to join, yes I am very grateful. But they feel that this is the need of Jakarta. Actually, it is not the need of Jakarta, it is a common need as an agglomeration," said Pramono in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, June 10.
However, Pramono admitted that he did not want to argue about the existence or absence of contributions from buffer areas. The main focus at this time is to ensure that cross-regional public transportation services continue to improve.
"I don't want to argue about whether there are or not those who contribute, but what is clear is that the problem of Jakarta's transportation and its supporting areas or buffers we handle better," he said.
Furthermore, Pramono revealed that the DKI Provincial Government was still finalizing the decision regarding the adjustment of the Transjabodetabek tariff. However, Pramono ensured that subsidies for the service would still be provided.
The clarification was made to answer the concerns of a number of parties who assessed that the tariff increase would reduce the subsidy support from the government, one of which was the Mayor of Bekasi Tri Adhianto.
"I want to straighten it out because now even yesterday the Mayor of Bekasi also called me personally, 'don't let it be subsidized'. It's impossible not to be subsidized, it will still be subsidized. But what is clear is that there will be some adjustments," said Pramono.
According to him, one of the factors that makes the subsidy needs quite large is the cost of maintaining the bus stops outside the Jakarta area but still borne by the DKI Provincial Government.
He gave an example of the TransJabodetabek service on the Blok M-Soekarno-Hatta Airport route, which is currently still at a rate of Rp. 3,500. The tariff is considered to need to be adjusted because it is far below the cost of other modes of transportation to the airport.
"One of them is from Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta. Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta is now 3,500, luggage can also ride on the bus, even compared to Damri which is the cheapest 80,000, the average taxi is 200,000. If then 3,500 for parking at Soekarno-Hatta alone is not enough, then that is how there will be adjustments," he said.
Although there will be adjustments to tariffs, Pramono emphasized that the policy must not reduce public interest in using public transportation. Because, increasing the number of public transportation users is one of the keys to reducing congestion in Jakarta and the buffer area.
"But the principle is that I will definitely consider it very seriously not to make people switch back to private vehicles," he added.
