Police Hosted By Illegal Miners Is Finally Free

JAKARTA - The joint team from the Jambi Regional Police and the TNI succeeded in freeing seven members of the Police who were held captive by residents. The seven members of the National Police were taken prisoner by the residents because they were disciplined in relation to mining gold without a permit (PETI).

Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan, said that in releasing police officers, at least 15 personnel from the Jambi Regional Police and the TNI were deployed. However, there was no clear explanation regarding the process and timing of the release.

"The joint team from the Jambi Regional Police, the Bungo Police and the TNI succeeded in freeing 7 personnel from the Bungo Police who had been held hostage by residents including PETI perpetrators," Ahmad said in Jakarta, Tuesday, May 12.

He said that after being released, the seven police officers immediately had their health checked. As a result, they are in good health and are not injured. In fact, AKP Suhendri's condition has started to improve.

"The condition of the Pelepat police chief who was reported to have had a stab wound in the buttocks, has received treatment and can resume activities," said Ahmad.

Until now, the Jambi Regional Police are investigating the case by examining seven victims of torture. In addition, preventive steps have also been taken by appealing to residents to hand over the perpetrators. Until now, the perpetrator is still in hot pursuit.

"The joint team of the Jambi Regional Police and the Bungo Police are still searching for the perpetrators and are appealing to the whole community through the village apparatus so that the perpetrators immediately surrender," Ahmad concluded.

This incident began when the Jambi Regional Police carried out activities to control illegal mining in Batu Kerbau Village, Pelepat District, Bungo Regency, Jambi, Sunday 10 May. Not accept, illegal miners, numbering hundreds of people, put up a fight.

In fact, the Kapolsek Pelepat, AKP Suhendri, became a victim of abuse by suffering a stab wound in the buttocks. In addition, the miners also damaged the officers' cars by throwing stones at them.
