North Sumatra Prosecutor Appeals the Verdict of 4 Defendants in the PTPN Asset Case

Medan - The North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal against the acquittal of four defendants in the alleged corruption case of the sale of PTPN I Regional I assets (formerly PTPN II) to developer PT Ciputra Land through an operational cooperation scheme (KSO) with PT Nusa Dua Propertindo.

Head of the Legal Information Section of North Sumatra State University, Rizaldi, said that the appeal step was taken after the prosecutor's team (JPU) studied the decision of the panel of judges of the Corruption Court at the Medan District Court.

"The JPU who handled the case stated that the appeal against the acquittal was in accordance with the applicable legal mechanism," said Rizaldi in Medan, Monday, June 8, as reported by ANTARA.

He said the prosecutor of the North Sumatra Attorney General's Office would submit an appeal memo to the Medan High Court through the Corruption Court Decree at the Medan District Court.

"The appeal will be registered on Wednesday (10/6) to the Medan High Court through the Medan Corruption Court," he said.

Rizal said that the appeal was carried out as a form of the prosecutor's legal rights against the court's decision, which was considered not to be in line with the demands and evidence submitted during the trial.

"Previously, each defendant was charged with a prison sentence of one year and six months and a fine of Rp. 500 million with a three-month imprisonment," he said.

The four defendants who were sentenced to acquittal were the former Head of the Regional Office of the National Land Agency (BPN) North Sumatra Askani, the former Head of the Deli Serdang Land Office Abdul Rahim Lubis, the former Director of PTPN II Irwan Perangin-angin, and the Director of PT Nusa Dua Propertindo Iman Subakti.

Previously, on Wednesday (3/6), the panel of judges of the Corruption Court at the Medan District Court, headed by Muhammad Kasim, stated that the defendants were not proven to have legally and convincingly committed corruption as charged by the public prosecutor.

In the decision, the panel of judges acquitted all defendants of all charges, and ordered the defendants to be released from detention, and restored the rights, status, dignity, and dignity of the defendants as before.
