Sufmi Dasco: Acceleration of the New Employment Law does not Only Depend on the DPR

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the acceleration of the formation of the new Employment Law (Naker) does not only depend on the DPR, but also on the completion of the formulation that is being drafted by the trade unions and the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo).

"It was conveyed that the new labor law, he said, was waiting, depending on me and the DPR, it was actually reversed," Dasco said at the opening of the III Congress of the Indonesian Labor Union Confederation (KPBI) in Jakarta, Sunday.

He explained that the acceleration of the new Naker Law had been discussed in a halal bi halal event with trade union associations and Apindo which was attended by a number of labor figures, including Jumhur Hidayat, Andi Gani and others.

In that event, he said, the association and Apindo would make a team to formulate the new Naker Law as a follow-up to the Constitutional Court (MK) decision.

"In the halalbihalal meeting with the heads of the Workers' Unions, Bung Ilham was also there, Bung Jumhur was there, Bung Andi Gani was there, with Apindo it was agreed that the Workers' Union and Apindo would make a team of drafters of the new Labor Law in response to the decision of the Constitutional Court," he said.

The results of the team's formulation, he said, which were then in the DPR to be synchronized with the current academic script, were being made.

Then the team from the Workers' Union, Apindo, and the DPR will make a joint team to draft and then discuss.

"Well, so if the law wants to be completed quickly as targeted by the President in October, it must be completed at the latest, yes we are both," said Dasco.

He added that until now, the results of the formulation of the Apindo team and trade unions regarding the substance that will be included in the new Employment Law are still unknown.

Previously, the revision of the Manpower Law was included in the 2025 Priority Prolegnas and was driven by the Constitutional Court (MK) decision and the many criticisms of the employment cluster in Law Number 11 of 2020 on Job Creation.

In the MK Decision Number 168/PUU-XXI/2023, the MK Panel of Judges ordered the law makers (Government and DPR) to make changes to the substance of the Employment Law with a maximum period of 2 years from the date the MK Decision was issued.
