Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 Sold Out, 15,080 Participants Ready to Run in Pekanbaru

PEKANBARU - The enthusiasm of the community for the 2026 Riau Bhayangkara Run continues to show an increasing trend. Until the closing of registration, the number of participants who were recorded to participate in the largest running event in Sumatra reached 15,080 participants.

This number surpassed the achievements of the previous year which managed to present 13,079 runners, and also confirmed the position of Riau Bhayangkara Run as one of the most popular running events in the Sumatra region.

Head of the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026, Kombes Daniel Widya Mucharam, said the high enthusiasm of the community was an indicator that the event held by the Riau Police had developed into a national-scale sports agenda that has strong appeal for the runner community from various regions.

"Alhamdulillah, the official registration has been closed with a total of 15,080 participants. This is a very proud achievement because it shows the public's trust in the implementation of the Riau Bhayangkara Run continues to increase," said Kombes Daniel, Sunday, June 7.

According to him, this year's participants not only come from Riau Province, but also come from various regions in Indonesia such as DKI Jakarta, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Riau Islands, Jambi, Bengkulu, Lampung, Aceh, to a number of other provinces.

The diversity of the participants' origin shows that the Riau Bhayangkara Run has developed into a sport tourism event that is able to attract runners from various regions to come to Pekanbaru.

Daniel said that the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 is one of the main series of the 80th Anniversary of Bhayangkara Day organized by the Riau Police this year.

"We want Bhayangkara Day to be felt not only by members of the National Police, but also to be a moment of togetherness with the community. Therefore, we present the Riau Bhayangkara Run as a space for collaboration, a space for socializing, as well as a space to promote Riau to participants from various regions in Indonesia," said Daniel.

According to him, sports have the power to unite people of various backgrounds in a positive spirit. Through the Riau Bhayangkara Run, the Riau Police want to present a Bhayangkara Day commemoration that is closer to the community while providing a real impact on the region through tourism promotion, strengthening the local economy, and a healthy lifestyle campaign.

"We hope that the participants who come to Pekanbaru not only get an unforgettable running experience, but also bring good stories about Riau when they return to their respective areas," he said.

He assessed that this was a matter of pride for the Riau Police. This indicates that Riau Bhayangkara Run is no longer just a regional event, but has become a nationally recognized event.

"Many participants from outside Riau came to feel the atmosphere of the race while enjoying the hospitality and potential of our area," he said.

Based on the committee's data, the 5K General and Student categories became the categories with the largest number of participants. Followed by the 10K General and Master categories and the National 21K category.

In addition, the International 21K category will also be attended by foreign runners who will compete with national runners at the event which will be held on July 19, 2026.

Kombes Daniel menilai tingginya minat peserta pada kategori 21 kilometer menunjukkan semakin berkembangnya budaya lari jarak jauh di Indonesia, khususnya di wilayah Sumatera.

"This year the composition of participants is quite interesting because it is not only dominated by recreational categories such as 5K, but also many runners who choose the 10K and Half Marathon categories. This shows the quality of the growing running community," he said.

The man who also serves as the Karorena of the Riau Police added that the committee had made various improvements compared to the previous year to ensure that all participants had the best experience during the race.

This year's event has used a route certified by World Athletics, equipped with a professional time recording system, water stations, additional health posts, standby ambulances at a number of points, and better traffic and parking arrangements.

Apart from being a sports event, the 2026 Riau Bhayangkara Run also carries social and environmental messages through the theme "Run With Purpose, Move Forward With Riau" which is in line with the Green Policing program of the Riau Police.

According to this Akpol 1996 graduate, the spirit built in this event is not just a competition, but also an invitation to the public to build a healthy lifestyle, strengthen social solidarity, and increase concern for the environment.
