Russian Citizen Accused of Drug Case in Bali Sentenced to 8 Months 15 Days in Prison

DENPASAR - The Denpasar District Court panel of judges sentenced a Russian citizen, Kseniia Varlamova (33) to 8 months and 15 days in prison in a case of not reporting a drug crime committed by his colleague Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak (separate case).

The panel of judges, chaired by Iman Luqmanul Hakim, read out in the trial at the Denpasar District Court (PN), stated that the defendant was proven to be legally and convincingly guilty of not reporting a narcotics crime as referred to in Article 111 as regulated in Article 131 Jo. Article 111 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"To sentence the defendant Kseniia Varlamova to 8 months and 15 days in prison," said the panel of judges as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 6.

In his consideration, the judge assessed that the defendant was not involved in the network of marijuana narcotics laboratories.

However, the defendant was considered not to report to the authorities when he found out about the practice of hydroponic marijuana cultivation carried out by his lover Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak.

The verdict is 15 days heavier than the prosecutor's request (JPU) I Made Lovi Pusnawan, who previously demanded the defendant with a prison sentence of 8 months.

After hearing the verdict, the defendant stated that he accepted the verdict of the panel of judges.

Meanwhile, the JPU stated that it was still thinking about determining the next legal steps.

In the case, the police also seized various evidence in the form of dry marijuana, marijuana plant seeds, hydroponic planting media, plant fertilizer tools, lighting lamps, blowers, humidifiers, temperature measuring tools, to electrical installation circuits.

Officers also seized a number of marijuana plants that were planted in pots and polybags of various sizes. Even dozens of marijuana plant seeds were found planted in small pots in plastic containers.

The total amount of seized narcotics evidence amounted to 278.2 grams gross or 133.06 grams net consisting of cannabis seeds, green leaves, and dried cannabis leaves.

In addition to narcotics and hydroponic equipment, two mobile phones belonging to the defendant Kseniia Varlamova and another defendant named Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak were also secured.

The panel of judges stated that all the evidence was used in another case on behalf of the defendant Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak.

Previously, the defendant was arrested by personnel from the Bali Police Narcotics Division while carrying out a raid on a two-story house on Jalan Bina Kusuma IV, Banjar Merta Gangga, Ubung Kaja Village, North Denpasar District, Wednesday (1/10/2025).

During the raid, the police arrested the defendant along with his partner, Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak.

From the location of the incident, the police found 14 marijuana trees along with dozens of marijuana plant seeds that were planted hydroponically.
