PADANG - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) emphasizes that the investigation or disclosure of the case of two civilians who were hit by "stray" bullets in Padang City, West Sumatra (Sumbar) must be carried out transparently, comprehensively, accountable and professionally.

"This is important because the right to security and protection from all forms of violence is guaranteed by law," said Komnas HAM Chairperson Anis Hidayah in Padang City, Thursday, June 4, as reported by ANTARA.

This was conveyed by the Chairperson of Komnas HAM after visiting the two stray bullet victims at the dr. Reksodiwiryo Hospital or Padang City Army Hospital.

Anis said all parties, especially the government, were obliged to guarantee and provide a sense of security to every citizen. Moreover, the location of the incident was in a university environment which should ensure security aspects and so on.

After meeting the two victims, he said that the case would be followed up by the West Sumatra Regional Office of Komnas HAM, which includes collecting information that is still needed, including proactively monitoring the handling of the incident.

Regarding the information obtained by Komnas HAM regarding the alleged sound of the eruption during the incident, Anis said that it must be investigated to prove its authenticity.

"We will still investigate it, including the chronology of events in detail," he said.

Currently, the condition of the two victims has improved a lot after undergoing surgery. Especially the female victim who is also a student at the State University of Padang was hit by a stray bullet in the leg. Meanwhile, the male victim suffered injuries to his hand.
