Malaysian PM-Iranian President Talks via Phone, Discusses Peace

JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to convey Eid al-Adha greetings, discuss peace, and accept an invitation to visit Tehran.

"Alhamdulillah, I had the opportunity to have a telephone conversation with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, to convey Eid Mubarak greetings as well as brotherhood and prayers from all Malaysians to the Iranian people," Anwar said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday, May 26.

During the talks, Anwar expressed hope that the situation in Iran would soon return to peace.

He also hopes that all tensions can be resolved through peaceful, wise, and responsible diplomacy.

Anwar emphasized that Malaysia still condemns all forms of attacks and aggression, including drone attacks as well as Israeli and US military actions.

According to him, this action will only add civilian casualties.

"I also conveyed appreciation for the support and cooperation of the Iranian government in helping the process of releasing the Malaysian ship some time ago," said Anwar.

He said the attitude of mutual respect and the spirit of friendship needed to continue to be strengthened in relations between countries.

Anwar also revealed that the Iranian President expressed appreciation for Malaysia's consistent stance in upholding peace, justice, and humanitarian principles at the international level.

In addition, Pezeshkian also invited Anwar to visit Tehran to strengthen bilateral relations and strategic cooperation between the two countries.

"God willing, I will arrange a schedule to visit Iran at the appropriate time. Iran is always close to my heart," said Anwar.

He added that he had many friends and acquaintances in Iran who upheld the values of science, brotherhood, and universal human struggle.
