PURWOKERTO - The Banyumas City Police (Polresta) has detained five university students who were involved in two cases that were mutually related, namely the alleged crime of sexual violence (TPKS) and the case of beating in the Purwokerto area, Banyumas Regency, Central Java.
The head of the Banyumas Police, Kombes Petrus P Silalahi, said the arrests were made in the interest of further investigation into the two cases.
In the TPKS case, he said, the police named a student with the initials DA (20) as a suspect and had been detained since May 25, 2026 by investigators from the Women and Children Protection and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (Satres PPA and PPO) of the Banyumas Police.
According to him, the case began with a report from a female student with the initials AP (21) who claimed to have experienced sexual violence accompanied by threats in the middle to late 2025 in the Purwokerto area.
"From the results of the examination, it was found that there were several sexual relations because of threats by the perpetrator to the victim," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 26.
He said investigators had examined a number of witnesses, asked for expert information, and secured evidence in the form of mobile phones and chat screenshots.
In addition to being a suspect in the TPKS case, he said, DA was also listed as a victim in a beating case that occurred on April 14-15, 2026 in the campus area and a boarding house in Purwokerto.
In the case of the beating, he said, the police had named four suspects, each with the initials DB (23), AW (23), RP alias BJ (23), and LD (20). The four of them have also been detained.
"We have secured the suspects and detained them for the sake of investigation," he said.
He said based on the results of the investigation, the victim DA was allegedly subjected to repeated physical violence in two different locations within a period of two days.
"We suspect that the act of beating was triggered by the issue of alleged sexual violence experienced by the victim AP and then developed into a joint act of violence against DA," he said.
He said that in the TPKS case, the suspect DA was charged with Article 6 letter c of Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Crimes, with a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison and/or Article 414 Paragraph (1) letter b of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of nine years in prison.
Meanwhile, the suspects DB and RP in the beating case were charged with Article 262 Paragraph (1) or Article 466 Jo. Article 127 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of six years and seven months in prison.
The suspects AW and LD were charged with Article 262 Paragraph (1) or Article 466 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
Currently, he said, investigators are still investigating the possibility of further links between the two cases.
He emphasized that the Banyumas Police were committed to completing the handling of the case in accordance with applicable laws.
"We do not tolerate any form of violence, whether sexual or physical violence. The legal process will run firmly according to the applicable rules," said Petrus.
