SEMARANG - A joint SAR team found the body of a man who was swept away in the West Semarang Flood Canal, Central Java, when heavy rain hit the area on Friday (22/5).

Head of the Semarang SAR Office Budiono said the victim was found about one kilometer from the starting point reported missing.

"It was found Saturday morning, stuck in the river waist," said Budiono as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 23.

From the victim's pocket, an identity card was found in the name of Sugiyono (65) resident of Sri Rejeki V, Kalibanteng Kidul, Semarang City.

The victim was allegedly swept away by the current while urinating around the irrigation canal which flows into the river.

According to Budiono, the victim had been holding on to one of the residents who tried to help, but was let go after being allegedly exhausted.

The search process which was carried out since Friday afternoon (22/5) only got results this morning.

The victim's body was then taken to the room. The body of the RS dr. Kariadi Semarang for further handling.

Budiono reminded people who were active around the river to be more careful about the danger of flooding in the weather which is still uncertain at this time.
