JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon is exploring cooperation in the preservation of Palestinian cultural heritage, including opportunities for the development of museums and exhibitions of Palestinian culture in Indonesia.

The discussion came when Fadli received academics Shofwan Al Banna Choiruzzad along with Dr. Thoriq and Dr. Saleh at the Ministry of Culture Office, Jakarta, Thursday, May 21.

Dr. Thoriq, who resides in Ramallah, explained that the foundation they manage has three main missions. First, protect and care for Palestinian artifacts and cultural heritage. Second, empower local communities. Third, strengthen education so that the community remains resilient in fighting for justice.

During the meeting, Dr. Saleh also expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's attitude towards Palestine. He alluded to Indonesia's support as well as condemnation of the genocide in Palestine.

Saleh also described the conditions of residents in the West Bank. According to him, the community faces mobility restrictions, difficulty in accessing education, and social-economic pressures due to the prolonged conflict.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of holding a Palestinian cultural exhibition and strengthening the network of museums in Indonesia.

Fadli said cultural cooperation is not enough with good intentions. Substantive and human resources must be prepared thoroughly.

"Substance is an important thing, maybe an exhibition, a narrative, storytelling, how Indonesia supports Palestine, how the government to the parliament supports," said Fadli.

Fadli in the meeting was accompanied by Expert Neno Warisman.

In addition to museum and exhibition cooperation, discussions also touched on cross-sector support opportunities. Cooperation can involve other institutions and stakeholders to support cultural and humanitarian programs related to Palestine.

This exploration opens up new spaces in Indonesian-Palestinian relations. Support is not only conveyed through politics and diplomacy, but also through cultural work, namely preserving artifacts, taking care of memories, and giving a place for Palestinian stories so that they do not disappear in the midst of conflict.
