JAKARTA - The rampant cases of snatching in several areas of Jakarta have begun to trigger concerns about the capital's security. Responding to this, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Satpol PP, Satriadi Gunawan, admitted that the limitations of personnel were still an obstacle in supervision in the field.

Satriadi said that routine patrols were actually carried out every day, especially in areas considered prone to security disturbances and public order. However, the vastness of the Jakarta area makes Satpol PP supervision unable to reach all points to the maximum.

"In every shift, members always patrol the areas considered prone to security and order disturbances. So the patrol is routinely carried out every day as a preventive measure," Satriadi told reporters, Thursday, May 21.

However, he admitted that the case of snatching generally took place very quickly so it was difficult to prevent it on the ground. The perpetrator was said to have immediately fled after acting.

"However, the Jakarta area is quite large. Meanwhile, the case of snatching usually takes place very quickly. The perpetrators immediately took action and fled, so it is quite difficult to detect if they are not caught on camera or CCTV. If there is CCTV footage, it is usually easier to track," he said.

Satriadi gave an example of the case of snatching a mobile phone belonging to a foreign citizen (WNA) which occurred in the area of Hotel Indonesia Roundabout (HI). According to him, the victim was holding a mobile phone before being snatched by the perpetrator who immediately fled the scene.

"Therefore, we also appeal to the public to be more vigilant in guarding their personal belongings. As in the case in the HI area, for example, the victim was holding a mobile phone and suddenly was jabret and the perpetrator immediately fled," said Satriadi.

In a meeting with the A Commission of the DKI Jakarta DPRD earlier, the issue of the lack of Satpol PP personnel was also highlighted. This condition is considered to have an impact on the pattern of security in the field, including the long shift work system.

Satriadi did not deny that the number of Satpol PP personnel was still limited. Therefore, security in the field was strengthened through coordination with the Three Pillars to the community.

Satriadi said that the involvement of residents was also encouraged through the reactivation of the environmental security system or siskamling in a number of areas.

"Even though the number of personnel is limited, we still try our best by involving the TNI, Polri, Satlinmas, and the community so that the security of the environment is maintained together," said Satriadi.

Regarding the spotlight on Jakarta's security, which has recently been widely discussed, Satriadi emphasized that criminal acts such as pickpocketing are the domain of the police. Even so, the DKI Provincial Government continues to pay attention to security conditions in the community.

"It remains the concern of the Governor that the Satpol PP must also help create a safe and conducive community. Therefore, we continue to strengthen the ranks in the region and increase community involvement," said Satriadi.

Regarding the possibility of adding personnel, Satriadi said the proposal had been submitted to the DKI Jakarta DPRD. However, its realization still depends on the financial capacity of the region and the government's decision.

"The proposal to add personnel has actually been conveyed, including during a meeting in Commission A of the DKI DPRD. However, everything depends on the financial condition of the region and further approval from the government," he added.
