JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto greeted the participants of the peaceful action after attending the DPR plenary meeting at the parliament complex. The moment immediately attracted the attention of thousands of masses who had gathered around the DPR building since morning to convey their aspirations in an orderly manner.
When passing in front of the parliament, President Prabowo seemed to wave his hand to the participants of the action. The greeting was greeted enthusiastically by the masses from various regions.
The presence of the head of state in the midst of the action participants was considered an unusual sight, especially after he followed the state agenda in parliament.
The peaceful action was held by Tani Merdeka Indonesia together with the Association of Indonesian Market Traders (APPSI). Around 3,000 people took part in the peaceful action.
The participants in the action consisted of farmers, market traders, MSMEs, fishermen, students, NGOs, and various community elements from a number of regions.
The mass carried banners and conveyed aspirations regarding the importance of an economic system that gives small communities more room to develop.
The atmosphere of the action was orderly and conducive. The masses voiced support for strengthening the people's economy which was considered in line with the needs of the lower classes.
In the plenary meeting, President Prabowo conveyed directly the macro-economic framework and the main points of the government's fiscal policy.
The agenda coincides with the commemoration of National Awakening Day and is used to strengthen a common view regarding stability and the direction of national economic development.
Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Farmers' Merdeka DPN, Aiman Adnan, said that the development of the national economy must present real favoritism to the small people.
According to Aiman, farmers, market traders, fishermen, and small business actors are an important part of the Indonesian economy. These groups need equal protection and opportunities to be able to grow in the midst of economic competition.
"For us, the Indonesian economy must not only benefit large groups or a few people. Farmers, market traders, fishermen, MSMEs, and small communities must receive equal attention and opportunities to develop," said Aiman Adnan.
Aiman assessed that President Prabowo's economic policy direction has similarities with the constitutional mandate, especially Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution which places the economy as a common effort with the principles of kinship and social justice.
"We see the direction of the economy that President Prabowo is running in line with the spirit of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, namely an economy built with the spirit of togetherness, mutual cooperation, and social justice," he said.
This action also became a space for conveying the attitude of Tani Merdeka and APPSI towards a number of economic issues that are still considered to be faced by small communities.
The mass expressed support for the people's economy which is considered to benefit the wider community. The presence of the state is considered important to maintain economic balance and protect small business groups so that they are not left behind.
Tani Merdeka Indonesia and APPSI also support the government's steps against economic practices that are detrimental to the community, including monopolies, cartels, and price games that affect farmers and market traders.
Aiman emphasized that such practices should not be allowed because it could weaken the people's economy and widen the gap.
The mass group also encourages the strengthening of cooperatives and village economies. Cooperatives are considered to be able to open access to capital, expand business, and help farmers and traders obtain better markets.
Protection of farmers and market traders is also a concern in this action. The masses asked the government to maintain the price of agricultural products, improve food distribution, and strengthen the existence of people's markets so that people's welfare increases.
Tani Merdeka Indonesia and APPSI assess that the development of the national economy must also run in line with Pancasila values.
Aiman said the people's economy reflected the implementation of the second, third, and fifth principles of Pancasila which emphasized the values of humanity, unity, and social justice.
"Supporting the implementation of Pancasila values in the national economy. We consider the people's economy to reflect the implementation of Pancasila, especially the 2nd principle, Humanism that is Just and Civilized, the 3rd principle, Indonesian Unity, and the 5th principle, Social Justice for All Indonesian People. Therefore, economic development must be carried out with the spirit of justice, unity, and common prosperity," said Aiman.
Aiman said that the support was born from the hope that the development of the national economy would be felt more by the lower classes. Economic policy, according to him, must be able to bring about more equitable prosperity.
"We believe that Indonesia can be stronger if the economy is built with a spirit of togetherness and siding with the people," he said.
