BANTUL - The National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) of the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) revealed the existence of an alleged synthetic tobacco drug dealer in Banjardadap, Banguntapan, Bantul through an ambush operation carried out on Saturday (9/5) evening.

"We have secured a man with the initials MIJS (23) after receiving information from the surrounding community," said Head of BNNP DIY Kombes Faried Zulkarnain in Yogyakarta, Wednesday, May 20, as reported by ANTARA.

According to him, in the examination through urine tests to the perpetrator, the results were found to be positive for methamphetamine or crystal meth, which indicates that the perpetrator is a user or consumer as well as a drug processor.

"Officers found indications that the perpetrator not only played a role in storage and circulation, but was also suspected of being involved in the process of preparing or mixing synthetic tobacco before it was distributed," he said.

"The suspicion, he continued, was strengthened by the discovery of a number of equipment and supporting materials that led to the perpetrators' activities in preparing synthetic tobacco as a ready-to-sell product.

"Synthetic tobacco is one form of narcotics that is generally made through mixing tobacco media with dangerous synthetic chemicals," he said.

He said that from the results of the search, evidence was found of seven packages of methamphetamine weighing 3.88 grams, nine packages of synthetic tobacco weighing 22.16 grams wrapped in white masking tape, and the remains of one cigarette of synthetic tobacco weighing 0.26 grams.

"Other non-narcotic goods were also secured in the form of mobile phones, digital scales, plastic clips, injection tools, plastic straws, tape, stickers, and equipment suspected of being used to support the activity of preparing ready-to-ship goods," said Faried.

The perpetrator, he continued, admitted that he obtained the narcotics from someone with the initials MCL from Bogor, West Java who knew each other through social media.

"The method is through the delivery of packages by bus," he said.

The perpetrator is currently being secured at the DIY BNNP Office to undergo further examination and development.

The investigation team, continued Faried, is also continuing to explore the possibility of the involvement of other networks in this case.
