JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged the immediate release of all activists of the Gaza Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian ship fleet detained by Israel.
"I am working closely with the leaders of friendly countries to ensure that all activists detained by the Zionist regime of Israel are immediately released," Anwar said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday, May 19.
He stressed that Malaysia demands that activists are not treated unjustly, hindered from their human rights, or subjected to inhumane actions.
According to Anwar, the activists only brought the voice of peace and humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people.
Previously, Anwar Ibrahim also criticized the detention of more than 100 humanitarian activists in the mission.
He assessed that the action against the humanitarian aid mission not only violated human rights and international law, but also showed the arbitrariness of the Zionist regime of Israel.
Anwar said the action was carried out by closing access to aid, silencing humanitarian voices, and oppressing those who defend the Palestinian people.
He added that more than 100 Global Sumud Flotilla activists were detained, 16 of whom were Malaysians who took part in the peace mission.
Anwar emphasized that the world must not continue to submit to injustice.
"The oppression of the Palestinian people and those who bring humanitarian aid must be stopped immediately," he said, adding that Israel must be held accountable for its actions.
