JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) and Minister of Transmigration (Mentrans) Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara invite young people to be involved in building a transmigration area through the research and service program of the Patriot Expedition.
"Especially the younger generation, who are expected to be in the forefront because Indonesia needs our best energy and thinking," said Coordinating Minister AHY in Jakarta, Sunday, quoted by Antara.
AHY conveyed this invitation when attending the Patriot Move 2026 activity which was linked with running with Patriot Expedition participants on the momentum of Car Free Day at the HI Roundabout, Jakarta.
According to AHY, the Patriot Expedition or Transmigration program is a strategic step for the Ministry of Transmigration in presenting superior young generations to help develop the transmigration area through research, innovation, and direct service to the local community.
As the Coordinating Minister for Transmigration, AHY admitted that he was proud because last year the government managed to send 2,000 participants to the Patriot Expedition to 154 transmigration areas spread across various regions of Indonesia to carry out field research.
He explained that the participants came from the best campuses in Indonesia who had high dedication and were ready to face challenges when deployed directly to the transmigration area which was far from their families.
According to him, students who participated in the Patriot Expedition not only conducted research, but also provided input to the government in developing the transmigration area from the economic, social, and regional infrastructure development aspects.
He assessed that many transmigration areas still needed the attention of the state so that economic growth could be evenly distributed so that the benefits of national development could be felt by the community to remote and underdeveloped areas in Indonesia.
AHY emphasized that the Ministry of Transmigration has an important role as a state instrument to realize equitable development and bring about economic justice through the development of transmigration areas based on local area potential.
At the same place, Minister of Transmigration (Mentrans) Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said the Patriot Move 2026 activity was held to socialize the Patriot Transmigration program which was a continuation of the development of the transmigration area the previous year.
Iftitah explained that last year the Ministry of Transmigration had deployed 2,000 researchers to 154 transmigration areas to conduct research and map the potential for regional development.
"If it used to be 2,000 researchers, now there are 1,458 (participants in the Patriot Expedition to be sent) in 53 transmigration areas, mainly in East Indonesia, so the focus is there," said Iftitah.
According to him, this year's Patriot Transmigration program has been expanded not only focusing on field research, but also strengthened through community service activities in the national transmigration area.
He said the program aims to provide superior human resources at the forefront of development so that the transmigration area can develop more advanced through innovation and community empowerment.
Iftitah emphasized that the Ministry of Transmigration's task in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 29 of 2009 is to create a new economic ecosystem to encourage the sustainable growth of the transmigration area nationally.
According to him, the presence of superior human resources in the transmigration area is believed to be able to create new economic growth centers so that population displacement can take place naturally and independently.
He explained that the new economic development strategy makes people come voluntarily to the transmigration area without requiring large costs from the state to move residents between regions in Indonesia.
Iftitah gave an example of the success of the transmigration area in South Sulawesi, which is now able to export durian to China, so that the welfare of farmers has increased five to six times.
