JAKARTA - The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) has been criticized after deciding to repeat the final of the Smart and Careful Competition (LCC) 4 Pillars in West Kalimantan Province. The Indonesian Teachers' Union Federation (FSGI) assessed that the decision could potentially sacrifice students due to the jury's mistakes.

The Chairman of the FSGI Expert Council, Retno Listyarti, assessed that the decision to replay the match at first glance seemed fair. However, the policy was considered to ignore the psychological aspect of the students.

"This is a fair policy at first glance, even though it has the potential to generate pros and cons and does not consider the best interests of children," Retno said in a statement, Friday, May 15.

Retno emphasized that students should not bear the consequences of the jury's mistakes. According to him, the victory of SMAN 1 Sambas cannot be immediately canceled just because of the inaccuracy of the assessment.

"Repeating the policy means canceling the victory of SMAN 1 Sambas, even though they won because of their hard work, they must have fought hard to get to this point. Although SMAN 1 Sambas may have benefited from the carelessness of the jury board, it is not the fault of the students from SMAN 1 Sambas, it is the fault of the jury board which is not professional. Don't because of the jury's mistake, these children are victims," said Retno.

According to Retno, the decision to repeat the final actually opened up the potential for new problems, ranging from participants' refusal to the possibility of legal action from schools that felt disadvantaged.

FSGI also highlighted the psychological impact if the race is repeated. Because, all participants must prepare themselves from the beginning with the pressure of the competition which does not necessarily produce the same winner.

In addition to psychological issues, FSGI assessed that the repetition of the final also has the potential to cause waste of funds. Starting from the costs that must be re-issued by the state to additional expenses from the school and parents of students.

"In terms of finances, if the final must be repeated, the costs incurred by the state are not small, this is the people's money. Likewise, the costs that must be incurred by the school and parents must also not be small," said Retno.

FSGI believes that the evaluation should focus on the professionalism of the jury board, not by repeating the competition. Moreover, according to them, a similar incident was said to have occurred during the implementation of the 4 Pillars LCC the previous year.

"The children of LCC participants are innocent, so it is not them who should be sanctioned again, but the strict sanctions of the jury council and also the evaluation of their position because they have made the image of the competition and the good name of the MPR tarnished," said Retno.

FSGI also assessed that the jury should be able to immediately solve the problem during the competition, especially the final was broadcast live via live streaming.

"The case of West Kalimantan, the jury should also be wise, because this competition is live streaming, so it should be repeated at that time to be heard more carefully, and when there is an error in the Jury Council, it will be wiser if the jury asks for forgiveness at that time to all participants," said Retno.

The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) decided to hold a re-run of the final round of the Smart and Careful Competition (LCC) Four Pillars 2026 at the West Kalimantan (Kalbar) Provincial Level after the assessment error.

MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani said that the re-run competition would be held in the near future with changes to the jury board. The jury for the re-run competition was taken from independent circles such as academics.

"LCC at the level of West Kalimantan that will be final will be repeated ... the leadership of the MPR will directly supervise the course of the competition from the beginning to the end," said Muzani, Wednesday, May 13.

The MPR acknowledged the mistakes in the organization of the final round in Pontianak on Saturday, May 9. Therefore, this step was taken as a correction for the mistakes that later became widely discussed on social media.
