JEMBER - Member of the Jember Regency DPRD from the Gerindra Faction, Achmad Syahri As-Siddiqi, made an open apology after his action of playing online games and smoking during a working meeting went viral on social media.

The apology was delivered by Syahri through a video recording that circulated on Thursday, May 14. In his statement, he admitted that his actions were inappropriate when carrying out his duties as a representative of the people.

"I apologize to all the people of Jember. In particular, this apology is also addressed to the General Chair and DPP of the Gerindra Party for the mistakes I have made," said Syahri.

The young legislator admitted that he was aware that his actions had hurt public trust and tarnished the image of the legislative institution.

He also stated that he was ready to accept all forms of consequences, both from within the Gerindra Party and the Jember DPRD Honor Committee (BK).

"I realize that this action has tarnished the image of the institution. This incident is a valuable lesson for me so that it does not happen again in the future," he said.

Syahri promised to improve his performance as a member of the DPRD and be more disciplined in carrying out his duties and overseeing the aspirations of the people of Jember.

Previously, Achmad Syahri was caught on camera playing an online game while smoking during a meeting of the D Commission of the Jember DPRD with the Jember Health Service on Monday, May 11.

The meeting was also attended by BPJS Kesehatan and the head of the health center in Jember Regency with the agenda of discussing health services and handling stunting.

Syahri's video then went viral on social media and drew public attention because it was considered not to reflect the ethics of a legislator while attending an official meeting.

The Chairman of the Jember DPRD, Ahmad Halim, also apologized for the incident. He ensured that the DPRD would process the issue according to the applicable mechanism.

"We, on behalf of the DPRD leadership, apologize. We will process this because it concerns the ethics of the DPRD institution," said Halim.

Halim, who is also the Chairman of the Gerindra Party DPC Jember, said his party would call Achmad Syahri to provide clarification.

He said Syahri was a new cadre of Gerindra and had not yet followed the party's comprehensive kaderisasi process.

"We will report to the leadership. What is clear is that we will process the member both in the party and in the institution," he said.
