JAKARTA - The government has designated 88 regencies and cities as priorities for poverty alleviation. The target is that extreme poverty will fall to 0 percent by the end of 2026.
Coordinating Minister for Social Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin said all ministries and agencies were asked to concentrate on these 88 areas.
"There are 88 regencies and cities that will be the priority for poverty alleviation. So that these 88 regencies and cities immediately become a concentration of ministries and agencies," said Cak Imin at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 12.
Cak Imin said the national poverty rate in 2024 was at 8.57 percent. In 2025 it fell to 8.25 percent. This year the government is pursuing a figure of 7.36 percent.
For extreme poverty, the figure in 2024 is 0.99 percent. In 2025 it will fall to 0.78 percent. The government targets a maximum of 0.38 percent, even 0 percent by the end of 2026.
Cak Imin also reported that the social protection budget in the state budget had reached Rp508.2 trillion. The budget includes cash social assistance, the Hope Family Program or PKH, to assistance for National Health Insurance premiums.
However, the big job is not just distributing assistance. The government wants all programs to be based on a single social economic data so that the assistance is not addressed incorrectly.
According to Cak Imin, the President ordered all ministries and agencies to consistently use the data in distributing government programs.
He also said that energy subsidies would be targeted more accurately. Several special policies related to poverty alleviation will be announced directly by the President.
