GORONTALO - President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia's position has begun to be taken into account in the ASEAN region after being able to strengthen national food security.

Prabowo made the statement after attending the ASEAN Summit in the Philippines before continuing his visit to Gorontalo, Saturday, May 9.

"We are very respected because we are now self-sufficient in food, we are self-sufficient in rice, self-sufficient in corn," said Prabowo.

He emphasized that Indonesia is now beginning to reduce its dependence on food imports from abroad. "We no longer need to import food from abroad," he said.

In addition to food, the government also targets energy self-sufficiency, including stopping the import of fuel. "Soon we will be self-sufficient in fuel. We will no longer import fuel," said Prabowo.

According to him, Indonesia has great natural wealth, but it must be managed properly so that it is not exploited by other nations.

"If the leaders are not honest or arbitrary, our wealth will be taken by other nations," he said.

Prabowo said the fisheries and marine sector would be one of the main focuses of the government through the blue economy concept.
