Taipei Reports One Death from Hantavirus

JAKARTA - One death case due to hantavirus infection was reported in Taipei.

China Central Television (CCTV) on Friday, May 8, reported that the Taipei authorities were carrying out massive sanitation measures and increasing the number of bait stations.

The report also stated that rodent monitoring and control experts had been deployed to help residents in efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.

So far, only one case has been confirmed in Taipei. However, public concern about the possibility of spreading the virus is still high.

Hantavirus is a group of viruses that are transmitted to humans through contact with rodents, especially mice. This virus can cause dengue fever with renal syndrome and pulmonary syndrome due to hantavirus.

Meanwhile, a deadly hantavirus outbreak has also been reported on the Dutch cruise ship MV Hondius, which sailed from Argentina to Cape Verde.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as many as seven people were infected in the incident, with three of them dying.
