JAKARTA - Iran said the increased US naval activity in the Gulf region deepened Tehran's doubts about Washington's seriousness in diplomacy and efforts to end the war.

The Tasnim news agency reported that the statement was made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan regarding regional developments.

Araghchi said the latest "provocative" actions by the US in the Persian Gulf as well as the "offensive rhetoric" of senior American officials increased Iran's suspicions about Washington's commitment to diplomacy.

He also accused the US of repeatedly violating the ceasefire and said Washington's approach undermined diplomatic efforts and deepened the Iranian people's distrust of American intentions.

According to Araghchi, the opposing party needs to stop illegal attacks and "unreasonable and excessive approaches" to advance the diplomatic process.

He also conveyed to Fidan Iran's diplomatic initiative aimed at permanently ending the war, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Fidan stressed the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts to end the war and reiterated support for the diplomatic process.

The conversation took place amid rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz after last night's shootout between Iranian and US forces.
