PALEMBANG - The South Sumatra Police have identified 16 victims who died in a traffic accident involving an Antar Lintas Sumatera (ALS) bus with a tanker truck in North Musi Rawas Regency (Muratara).
Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Police, Kombes Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, said that as many as 16 bags of the victims' bodies arrived at the Bhayangkara Mohammad Hasan Hospital in Palembang on Thursday at around 05.10 WIB to undergo the identification process by the South Sumatra Police Biddokkes Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team together with the Pusdokkes DVI Team of the National Police Headquarters.
The identification process was carried out intensively since 07.30 WIB at the DVI Post of the Forensic Facility at Bhayangkara Hospital.

He explained that the accident occurred on Wednesday (6/5) at around 12.00 WIB on Jalan Lintas Sumatera, Karang Jaya Village, Muratara Regency. The incident involved an ALS bus with the police number BK-7778-DL and a tank car R6 with the police number BG-8196-QB.
Based on the results of the initial investigation, the accident is suspected to have occurred when the ALS bus, which was traveling from Lubuk Linggau to Jambi, tried to avoid a road hole. However, the vehicle lost control, entered the opposite lane and hit the tanker truck, causing a massive fire.
The police's provisional data recorded a total of 20 victims in the incident, consisting of 16 victims who died, three victims with serious injuries, and one victim with minor injuries.
The deceased victims who have been identified include Aryanto (49), the driver of a tanker truck from Lubuk Linggau residents, Martono (48) a tanker truck passenger from Muratara residents, Alif (44) a driver of an ALS bus from Central Java, Saf (50) a bus driver from ALS from Medan and Maleh (42) a bus crew from ALS from Medan.
In addition, the police also identified the victims of the ALS bus passengers, namely Relodo, Zulkifli, Aldi Sulistiawan, Rani, and Bela. The other six victims are still undergoing further identification by the National Police DVI Team.
Meanwhile, the survivors are Jumiatun (35) and Ngadiono (44) residents of Pati, Central Java, and Muhammad Fahrul Hubaidi (31) a resident of Tegal who suffered burns and were treated at Rupit Hospital.
Then, M Fadli bin Ibrahim (30), a bus driver from Riau, suffered minor injuries.
At the scene, officers secured a number of evidence in the form of a burned vehicle carcass, gas cylinders, motorcycle engines and personal belongings of passengers.
