JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for continued negotiations to end the war between the US-Israel and Iran in talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing.

In a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang said Beijing wanted "an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.

The Iranian foreign minister told Wang, "We will only accept a fair and comprehensive deal."
He also expressed appreciation for Beijing's attitude and called China Iran's "close friend", according to the Iranian Students' News Agency.
Wang also said China was willing to play a bigger role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, and urged relevant parties to immediately respond to the strong call of the international community to restore normal and safe shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Chinese diplomat said Beijing appreciated Iran's commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, while recognizing Tehran's legitimate right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged China to pressure Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy shipments, saying Tehran's actions had left it "globally isolated".
