Today, the First Corruption Trial of Customs, John Field et al. Accepts Charges

JAKARTA - The first trial of the alleged corruption case in the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance began today at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court, Wednesday, May 6.

The agenda of the trial is the reading of the indictment against the three defendants from the private sector, namely the owner of Blueray Cargo John Field, Operations Manager Dedy Kurniawan, and Head of the Import Documentation Team Andri.

"The defendant John Field et al, the agenda for reading the indictment," said the spokesperson for the Central Jakarta PN, Andi Saputra, quoted by Antara.

The trial was chaired by Chief Judge Brelly Yuniar Dien, accompanied by two members of the court, Edward Agus and Nofalinda Arianti.

This case is the result of a hand-in-hand operation (OTT) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on February 4, 2026 in the Customs Directorate General. In the operation, a number of officials and private parties were secured.

A day after OTT, the KPK named six people as suspects, consisting of three Customs officials and three private parties. They include Rizal as the Director of Enforcement and Investigation of Customs for the period 2024-January 2026, Sisprian Subiaksono, and Orlando Hamonangan.

From the private sector, the KPK named John Field, Andri, and Dedy Kurniawan as suspects related to alleged bribes and gratuities in the management of the import of counterfeit goods.

The development of the case continued with the establishment of a new suspect on February 26, 2026, namely Budiman Bayu Prasojo, who served as Head of the Tax Intelligence Section.

The KPK also revealed the seizure of cash amounting to Rp5.19 billion from a house in Ciputat, South Tangerang, which was suspected to be related to the case.

This first trial is the first step in the court's evidence-gathering process to reveal the practice of alleged corruption in the customs sector.
