BANJARBARU - The South Kalimantan Police (Kalsel) ensured that they would take action against police officers who were caught smoking while driving a car in Banjarmasin until the video went viral on social media.

"We publicly apologize to the public for the behavior of the member," said Head of Public Relations of the South Kalimantan Police, Kombes Pol Adam Erwindi, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 5.

He also ensured that the South Kalimantan Police had taken steps against the concerned members of the National Police.

Adam said the Propam Unit of the South Kalimantan Police had conducted an investigation and the members who were suspected of violating the provisions were given sanctions in accordance with the provisions of the internal police.

Previously, a viral video on social media showed a member of the National Police with the rank of assistant commissioner of the police (AKBP) smoking while driving a car.

In the video's narration, the police officer was reprimanded by another driver for driving while smoking.

However, the member responded casually and even said that the person who scolded him was jealous.

In the footage, the police also appear not to use a seat belt, which clearly violates traffic regulations.
