JAKARTA - National film actors highlight three major works that have not been completed in the film industry, namely transparency of distribution data, tax policies, and revisions to the Film Law.

The issue came to light when Minister of Culture Fadli Zon received the Chairman of the Indonesian Film Agency (BPI) Fauzan Zidni and a number of film producers at the Ministry of Culture's office, Jakarta, Monday, May 4.

Fauzan said BPI together with the producer association had formed the Indonesian Film Producer Forum. This forum is prepared as a space for the consolidation of industry players to discuss the production, governance, and challenges of national films.

"We formed this forum to strengthen the national film ecosystem so that it is more solid and directed," said Fauzan.

Producer Linda Ghozali emphasized that the film industry needs open distribution data. Without clear data, industry players find it difficult to read the market, formulate strategies, and measure the achievements of national films in a healthy manner.

"Data transparency is very important so that this industry can develop healthily," said Linda.

He also highlighted the need for tax policy support and acceleration of the revision of the Film Law.

Producer and director Angga Dwimas Sasongko assessed that the growth of national films is not enough to be supported by the number of productions. According to Angga, regulations and distribution must be made more fair so that all actors have room to grow.

"We hope that there will be policies that can maintain the growth of this industry fairly and sustainably," said Angga.

Fadli Zon said the Ministry of Culture would follow up on the input of film actors. He said coordination with related ministries and agencies was needed because film issues were not only at one policy table.

"The Ministry of Culture is committed to ensuring that the national film ecosystem grows strong and sustainable, through policies that favor national films," said Fadli.

The meeting was also attended by the Expert Staff of the Minister for Legal and Cultural Policy Masyitoh Annisa Ramadhani Alkatiri and the Director of Film, Music, and Art Irini Dewi Wanti.

For industry players, the homework is that national films need an open market, more certain rules, and a state that is present in governance, not just promotion.
