President Bakal Attend May Day at Monas, Government Claims to Stand Together with Workers

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the peak of the National Labor Day or May Day 2026 at the National Monument, Jakarta. The government called the presence a confirmation of the attitude in the midst of labor unrest regarding layoffs, the cost of living, and economic uncertainty.

Head of the Indonesian Government Communication Agency Muhammad Qodari said the government did not place workers as opponents.

"The government wants to emphasize one thing, that the government's position is not to face the workers, but to stand together with the workers," said Qodari at a press conference at the Bakom RI Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (29/4).

According to Qodari, the state is present as a protector of workers. However, the government must also maintain the sustainability of employment.

He said the government understood the workers' anxiety ahead of Labor Day on May 1. The concerns are mainly related to the threat of job termination, cost of living pressure, and uncertain economic situation.

"The government has noted and understands this unrest. The state is present as a protector of workers as well as a guardian of job sustainability," he said.

Qodari said that the welfare of workers and the health of the business world should not be conflicted. Both, he said, are part of the same goal.

The statement is important because May Day is often the main stage for workers to voice demands. This year, the spotlight is on how the government responds to workers' unrest without neglecting the resilience of the business world.

The peak of the 2026 National Labor Day commemoration will be held at Monas. The government said Prabowo's presence was part of a commitment to stand together with workers.
