JAKARTA - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the United States (US) was "humiliated" in its war against Iran.
Merz said Washington did not seem to have a clear strategy and questioned what kind of way out the US might take.
He also compared the US-Israeli war situation against Iran with the US military's past failures.
"The problem with conflicts like this is that you always have to not only get in - you also have to get out again. We saw it very painfully in Afghanistan for 20 years. We saw it in Iraq," he said while speaking to students in the city of Marsberg, Germany, Monday, April 27, quoted from DW.
Merz said Iranian officials "clearly negotiated very skillfully" and appeared "clearly stronger than expected".
He added that "the entire nation is shamed by Iran's leadership", especially by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Merz urged the US to end the war against Iran because the impact had hit the German economy.
"Currently, the situation is quite complicated," he said.
"And it costs us a lot of money. This conflict, the war against Iran, has a direct impact on our economic output," Merz continued.
Merz said Germany was ready to deploy its minesweeping vessels to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil supply route.
However, he stressed that these steps can only be taken if the hostilities between the US-Israel against Iran are stopped.
Merz's comments come amid growing concern across Europe about the wider impact of regional conflicts in the Middle East, including disruptions to energy supplies and economic instability.
