JAKARTA - The government is changing the approach to extreme poverty alleviation by targeting specific areas. Coordinating Minister for Social Empowerment A. Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) assessed that the program so far has not been fully targeted.

This can be seen from the still many extreme poor families who have not received intervention. The government recorded more than 774 thousand families in the desil 1 group who have not been touched by the assistance program.

These pockets of poverty are spread across a number of areas, including Garut, Bogor, Cirebon, Cianjur, to Kulonprogo. In addition, about 8.1 percent of families have not received any assistance at all.

Cak Imin emphasized that in the future, interventions will be focused on priority areas so that they are more targeted.

"In the future, we will sharpen interventions in 16,550 priority villages/villages. With proper mapping and integrated work, we are optimistic that the target of zero percent extreme poverty by 2026 can be achieved," said Cak Imin, Monday, April 27.

According to him, changing the approach to work is the key. He asked all ministries and agencies to no longer focus only on absorbing the budget, but on the real impact it produces.

"Every rupiah spent must be clear of its impact. How many people can get out of poverty must be the main measure," he said.

As a follow-up, the government will expand the scope of the program to reach all 1 desil groups, while shifting the social assistance scheme to economic empowerment.

This step will be accompanied by strengthening cross-ministry and agency integration, especially in priority areas in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Empowerment of the Community Number 6 of 2026.

"Acceleration of infrastructure strengthening, labor-intensive programs, vocational synergy, people's business loans (KUR) for creative economy, cooperatives and MSMEs," he said.
