JAKARTA - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) confirmed that the death of a toddler with the initials MAB in Cianjur, West Java, was not related to the free nutritious meal program (MBG).

This affirmation was conveyed following the circulation of information on social media that linked the death of the two-year-old toddler to food from the MBG program.

Deputy Head of BGN for Public Communication and Investigation, Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, confirmed that the news was not true. According to him, there is no relationship between the health condition of the toddler and the food distributed through the MBG program.

"It is not true that the two-year-old baby died in Cianjur because of the MBG program," Nanik said in an official statement, Sunday, April 26.

Nanik explained that the last MBG food was received by the toddler on Tuesday, April 14 through the Sukasirna 02 Leles Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG). The menu given at that time consisted of soy sauce noodles, scrambled eggs, milk, and fruit, which were immediately consumed on the same day.

In the evening and the next morning, the child's parents also provided additional food outside the MBG program, namely apples and formula milk that were purchased independently.

Symptoms of new health disorders emerged two days later, precisely on Thursday, April 16 at around 06.00 WIB. At that time, the child began to vomit and diarrhea. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, April 15, the toddler was known to not eat MBG food because he refused to eat.

BGN also noted that out of the 2,174 beneficiaries who received MBG food on April 14, 2026, there were no other reports of digestive disorders or similar complaints. "This is an indicator that the food is distributed in a safe and safe condition for consumption," said Nanik.

Separately, the deceased's father, Sahjanudin (41), also confirmed that his son's death was purely due to the illness he was suffering from, not as a result of consuming food from the MBG program.

"I am the parent of Abdul Bais, I declare that my child's death is purely due to illness. It has nothing to do with the kitchen of MBG SPPG Sukasirna 02 Leles," he said.

BGN also expressed condolences for the death of the toddler. The institution ensures that it will continue to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the free nutritious meal program strictly so that the safety and quality of food remains guaranteed for all beneficiaries.

"Hopefully the families left behind will be given fortitude and strength," said Nanik.
