JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning regarding the potential for heavy to very heavy rain due to cyclonic circulation that needs to be watched out for, especially in North Sumatra and Maluku.

BMKG Praktirawan Wahyu Anisa explained that the cyclonic circulation was observed in the western waters of Aceh which formed a convergence and confluence area around it.

This atmospheric dynamics combination causes significant weather potential in several regions of Indonesia.

"The readiness for the potential of heavy to very heavy rain needs to be improved, especially in the North Sumatra and Maluku regions," he said.

He explained that the observed convergence area extends from the west coast of North Sumatra to Aceh.

Other convergence areas are also formed in Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, to most of the Kalimantan, Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Papua regions.

He explained that this condition significantly increases the potential for rain cloud growth in areas that pass through the convergence line.

For major cities in western Indonesia, BMKG predicts that rain accompanied by lightning will hit Tanjung Pinang, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, and Banjarmasin, while moderate intensity rain is predicted to occur in Medan City.

Other areas, such as Aceh, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jambi, Palembang, Bengkulu, to cities on the island of Java and Pontianak, he said, have the potential for light rain.

In eastern Indonesia, light-intensity rain is expected to rain on Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Mamuju, Ternate, Ambon, to Papua areas such as Sorong, Nabire, Jayapura, and Merauke.

BMKG urges the public to remain vigilant against the possible impacts of extreme weather, such as floods or landslides, and to continue to monitor weather updates through official government channels.
