Lawyer of Child Rape Suspect in Aceh to be Immediately Tried, Threatened with 240 Canings

BANDA ACEH - The public prosecutor of the Banda Aceh District Attorney's Office (Kejari) arrested a suspect in a sexual offense against a child after receiving the transfer of the case from the Banda Aceh Police investigators.

"The detention was carried out after the public prosecutor of the Banda Aceh District Attorney's Office received the transfer of responsibility for the case along with the suspects and evidence or stage two from the Banda Aceh Police investigators," said Head of the Banda Aceh District Attorney's Office Suhendri as reported by ANTARA, Friday, April 25.

He said the male suspect, with the initials FR, was 42 years old. The suspect is a lawyer. The suspect was detained for the next 15 days at the Banda Aceh Class IIB State Detention House (Rutan) in Kahju, Aceh Besar Regency.

Suhendri said that the sexual assault or sexual harassment case allegedly committed by FR occurred in the Kuta Alam area, Banda Aceh City, on July 19, 2025. The victim is still a minor.

For his actions, the suspect FR was charged as regulated and threatened with Article 50 jo Article 47 of the Aceh Law Number 12 of 2025 concerning changes to the Aceh Law Number 6 of 2014 concerning the law of jinayat.

Article 50 regulates rape of children with a threat of whipping at least 200 times or at most 240 times. or a fine of at least 2,000 grams of pure gold and at most 2,400 grams of pure gold. As well as imprisonment for a minimum of 200 months and a maximum of 240 months.

Article 47 stipulates that anyone who sexually abuses a child is threatened with whipping at least 100 times and at most 144 times. Or a fine of at least 1,000 grams of pure gold and at most 1,440 grams of pure gold and a prison sentence of at least 100 months and at most 144 months.

"The public prosecutor will immediately prepare the indictment and submit the case to the Banda Aceh Syariah Court. We are also preparing a team of public prosecutors to handle the case in court," said Suhendri.
