JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Library and Archives Service (Dispusip) together with the Jakarta Library and the H.B. Jassin Literary Document Center (PDS) held a literary exhibition entitled "Yang Terbit, Yang Tenggelam: 60 Tahun Majalah Horison" at the PDS H.B. Jassin Gallery, Ali Sadikin Building, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Central Jakarta.
This exhibition, which will run until May 24, 2026, is open to the public as an effort to expand public access to Indonesian literary treasures while celebrating six decades of Horison magazine.
Head of DKI Jakarta Dispusip, Nasruddin Djoko Surjono, said this exhibition is part of the institution's responsibility in caring for the collective memory of the nation through literature.
"Sixty years of Horison's journey reflect the history of thought, aesthetic struggle, and intellectual traces of Indonesian literature," he said.
This exhibition was curated by a team led by Esha Tegar Putra by reviewing around 360 editions of Horison magazine. The curation includes short stories, poems, and more than 30 illustrations from the period 1966-1990.
Instead of presenting history in a linear manner, this exhibition takes a fragmentary approach through various thematic zones, ranging from the timeline of Horison's journey, cross-generational editorial documentation, to the visual exploration of covers and illustrations.
Visitors can also access the audio archive of poetry readings and trace the development of Horizon to digital media.
The writer Jamal D. Rahman considers this exhibition as a space of historical honesty because it not only displays success, but also acknowledges the process and failures behind the works that are published.
This exhibition is expected to strengthen literacy and re-ignite the spirit of creating and awareness of preserving language and culture in the midst of changing times.
