JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha revealed that Ukraine has asked Turkey to host a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as Kyiv seeks to revive stalled peace talks.
"We have asked Turkey about it, we have also asked several other countries' capitals," Foreign Minister Sybiha said in comments to reporters, launching Al Arabiya from Reuters (22/4).
He added that Ukraine was ready to consider other places besides Belarus or Russia for a meeting with President Putin, which President Zelensky has long sought to accelerate the conclusion of a war that has lasted more than four years.
However, Foreign Minister Sybiha did not reveal how Ankara responded to the proposal.
"We are in particular contact with Turkey," he said.
"But if other capitals, besides Moscow and Belarus, hold such meetings, we will be present," he continued.
Belarus is a close ally of Russia and allowed Moscow to use Belarusian territory to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The Kremlin has previously said it was willing to host Mr Zelensky in Moscow, where the Ukrainian leader has said he will not go.
