Israel Detains More than 23 Thousand Palestinians in the West Bank Since October 2023

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Prisoners' Society, a non-governmental organization (NGO), revealed that more than 23,000 Palestinians have been detained by Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, since the start of the Israeli genocide in Gaza in October 2023.

In a report released on Sunday, the organization said the figure includes all individuals detained, both those still in detention and those later released.

This also includes those detained from their homes, at military checkpoints, those who surrendered under pressure, or those who were taken hostage, according to the report, quoted from WAFA (20/4).

The report further explains that the number of female detainees has reached more than 400 cases, including Palestinian women detained from Israel and Gaza, as well as those detained in the West Bank.

Meanwhile, the number of child detentions has reached around 1,800 cases.

The report also noted that more than 240 journalists have been detained since the start of the war, with 43 still in detention, including three female journalists.

That includes a journalist, Marwan Harzallah from Nablus, who died in Israeli custody.

The Palestinian Prisoners' Society explained that the ongoing campaign of detention was accompanied by an increase in violations, including severe beatings, intimidation of prisoners and their families, widespread destruction and vandalism of houses, confiscation of vehicles, money and gold jewelry, and extensive damage to infrastructure, particularly in the Tulkarm and Jenin refugee camps.

The organization added that the detentions were also accompanied by executions in the field in some cases, including family members of detainees, along with intensive field interrogations affecting thousands of people in various provinces in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
