PKS Has No Problem Elections Held February 28, But...

JAKARTA - The chairman of the PKS faction of the DPR, Jazuli Juwaini, said that his party would not have a problem if the plan for the 2024 Simultaneous Election was moved forward on February 28 from the previous schedule, in April.

The schedule needs to be moved forward considering that on November 27 in the same year the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections will be held.

"There is no problem, there must be a significant reason," said Jazuli at the DPR Building, Monday, June 7.

One of the reasons for the promotion of the agenda is because of the potential for the presidential election to be held in two rounds. Therefore, Jazuli believes that this possibility must be considered.

"It is possible for two rounds to occur when there are more than two candidates, but if there are only two candidates, the possibility is small for two rounds," he said.

Nevertheless, the PKS faction still hopes that simultaneous elections will still be held according to the provisions of Law 7/2017 concerning Elections. The law orders the stages to be carried out for 20 months.

"If it's like the Election Law, there are no problems and there are no obstacles, I think we will follow the law much better," said Jazuli Juwaini.

Previously, Commission II of the DPR together with the KPU agreed that the 2024 elections would be held on February 28, 2024.

The DPR, KPU, and the Government have agreed that the voting for the presidential and legislative elections will be held on February 28. As for the election on November 27.

The legislative and presidential elections will be held on 28 February 2024. The regional elections will be held on 27 November 2024," said Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Luqman Hakim, Friday, June 4.
