Truck Hits Tree in Wonogiri, Passenger Dies on the Spot

WONOGIRI - A single accident occurred on the Wonogiri-Ngadirojo line, Central Java, Monday, April 20, early morning. A truck carrying orange leaves crashed into a tree, causing one passenger to die at the scene.

The incident occurred at around 01.20 WIB in front of the gate of SMKN 2 Wonogiri, Bulusulur Village. The Mitsubishi Colt truck with the police number AG 8638 EF was traveling from Ngadirojo to the center of Wonogiri with about 20 sacks of orange leaves.

Based on the chronology, the vehicle was traveling normally on a straight road with sufficient lighting. However, when he arrived at the location, the truck suddenly swerved to the left, went off the road, and hit an acacia tree on the side of the road.

Wonogiri Police Traffic Unit Head AKP Julius Marlon Gawe said the accident was allegedly triggered by the driver's fatigue. "It is suspected that the driver was sleepy so he lost control and went off the road until he hit a tree," he said.

The hard collision made the front of the truck severely damaged. The passenger named Sugiyono (46), a resident of Tulungagung, suffered serious injuries and was stuck inside the cabin.

The victim suffered a broken right leg and was declared dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver, who is the victim's biological child, survived without physical injuries, but suffered shock.

Police officers who received the report immediately headed to the location to conduct an investigation, evacuate the victim, and regulate traffic flow.

The victim's body was then taken to Wonogiri Hospital for further treatment. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident by examining witnesses at the scene.

AKP Julius again reminded the importance of the physical condition of drivers, especially when driving at night. "If you feel tired or sleepy, you should rest immediately. Safety must be the top priority," he said.
