JAKARTA - US forces in the Middle East are ready to resume combat operations if Iran does not agree to a peace deal, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a briefing at the Pentagon on Thursday.

"Iran, you can choose a prosperous future, a golden bridge, and we hope you do it for the Iranian people," he said, launching Al Arabiya from Reuters (16/4).

"But if Iran chooses poorly, then they will face blockades and bombs dropped on infrastructure, electricity, and energy," said Defense Secretary Hegseth.

As part of a campaign to pressure Tehran into agreeing to a deal, US military forces have imposed a blockade on all ships attempting to enter or leave Iran.

"(We) will actively pursue any Iranian-flagged vessel or any vessel that tries to provide material support to Iran," said US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dan Caine on the same occasion.

It said ships attempting to break through the blockade would be intercepted and warned "If you do not comply with this blockade, we will use force."

"Law enforcement will be carried out in Iranian territorial waters and in international waters," he said at the press conference.
