Washington, DC - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa met with the IMF, the World Bank, international rating agencies, and 18 global investment institutions in Washington, DC, USA recently.

Menkeu Purbaya in his statement, Wednesday, April 15, said that international institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, as well as global investors, positively assessed Indonesia's fiscal policy direction under the government of President Prabowo Subianto.

According to him, these institutions assess that Indonesia is able to encourage economic growth quickly without neglecting the principle of fiscal prudence. Regarding meetings with global investors, including Goldman Sachs and Fidelity, Minister of Finance Purbaya said that initially they questioned Indonesia's commitment to economic growth and its impact on the State Budget (APBN).

Minister of Finance Purbaya then responded by explaining the direction of economic policy in detail and comprehensively, which was welcomed positively by investors. After the meeting, Minister of Finance Purbaya was optimistic that foreign capital flows, both to fixed income instruments and equities, would increase to Indonesia.

Meanwhile, regarding his meeting with the IMF, Purbaya said that he met directly with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. During the meeting, Kristalina said that global uncertainty would still remain high in the near future.

However, the IMF is said to be interested in Indonesia's condition which still has strong economic fundamentals amid global turmoil. Minister of Finance Purbaya explained that this is inseparable from the policy adjustments made by Indonesia since last year, so that it is able to mitigate the impact of external shocks, especially the rise in world oil prices.

Regarding the meeting with the World Bank and international rating agencies, Purbaya said that they responded positively to the explanation and Indonesia's macroeconomic strategy. In fact, the World Bank is said to be exploring opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation with Indonesia.
