Zelensky Claims Ukraine Deserves to Join the EU if the US Leaves NATO

JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has encouraged Britain to rejoin the European Union (EU) if the US leaves NATO.

"If the United States really thinks about withdrawing from NATO, then European security will completely depend on the European Union," Zelensky said, quoted by the Dailymail, Sunday, April 12.

According to him, to strengthen Europe's defense against Russia, Britain must rearrange its ties with the European Union.

Zelensky added that the European Union needs many countries on the same continent to be involved in its organization.

He also claimed that there were four countries, including Ukraine, that deserved to join the European Union to strengthen their bargaining position in the world. In fact, continued Zelensky, it could match the strength of its enemy, Russia.

"But not in its current form. I think the EU is in a situation where it needs more countries. England, Ukraine, Turkey, and Norway," he said.

"Those are four powerful countries, which are part of Europe. Together, Britain, Ukraine, and Turkey have a stronger armed forces than the Russian armed forces. Without Ukraine and Turkey, Europe cannot match Russia," Zelensky continued.

The leader of the country that has been at war with Russia for four years claims that the EU's priority is actually security stability so as to bring economic growth.

"With these four countries joining, you can seize control of the sea, have a safe airspace, and the largest ground forces. Security is the priority, the economy is second. Not the other way around," he said.
