JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra received information that fugitive Riza Chalid was in Malaysia.
"What we hear is in Malaysia, but of course it must be investigated and if it is indeed in Malaysia, it must be requested for extradition to the Malaysian government," said Coordinating Minister Yusril, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, April 10.
Previously, the Attorney General's Office on Thursday (9/4) again named Mohammad Riza Chalid (MRC) as a suspect in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of crude oil and refinery products at Pertamina Energy Trading Ltd. (Petral) in 2008-2015.
Riza Chalid was previously also named a suspect and fugitive for the alleged corruption case in the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina Subholding and the Contractor of the Cooperation Work Contract (KKKS) in 2018-2023.
However, Yusril said he did not handle the Riza Chalid case directly.
"I think maybe the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Sugiono, ed.), together with the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Supratman Andi Agtas, ed.) will handle this matter. Until now, no repatriation efforts have been made, both in the context of MLA (mutual legal assistance, ed.) and with extradition with the Malaysian Government," said Yusril.
On a separate occasion, the Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General's Office, Anang Supriatna, said Riza Chalid was outside Indonesia.
Anang ensured that the Attorney General's Office continued to communicate with the relevant working unit, namely the NCB of the Indonesian Interpol, to track the whereabouts of the suspect.
Meanwhile, the Director of Investigation (Dirdik) of the Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney General's Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, at a press conference confirmed that the Attorney General's Office would continue to hunt for Riza, who is still at large.
"We will continue to work with Interpol, especially Interpol Indonesia, to try to bring MRC's brother," said Syarief.
Riza Chalid's presence in Malaysia was revealed by the Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI), Boyamin Saiman.
"If it's about Riza Chalid in Malaysia, I'm sure he's in Malaysia. Because there will be no other place where he can live comfortably," Boyamin said in early February 2026.
