Police Name 5 Suspects in the Persecution of 2 People to Death at Benoa Port

DENPASAR - The Denpasar City Police (Polresta) has named five suspects in the alleged abuse case that led to the deaths of two people in the Benoa Harbor area, South Denpasar, Bali.

Denpasar Police Chief Kombes Pol. Leonardo David Simatupang during a press conference in Denpasar, Friday, said the perpetrators committed brutal persecution which caused the two victims to die.

The police chief explained that the perpetrators committed abuse by beating with bare hands, stones, wooden beams, kicking, and pouring gasoline on the victim and burning him.

"The perpetrator committed persecution with bare hands, stones, wooden beams, and burned the victim using gasoline," said Simatupang as reported by ANTARA, Friday, April 10.

The incident occurred on Friday morning at around 04.30 WITA on Jalan Pelabuhan Benoa No. 7 X, Pedungan Village, South Denpasar.

The two victims who died were named Egi Ramadan (30), from Cirebon and Hisam Adnan (29), from Semarang.

Meanwhile, officers have arrested the five suspects, each with the initials SA, DH, NU, DR and IS.

Meanwhile, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Denpasar Police, Kompol Agus Riwayanto, said the disclosure of this case was carried out in a short time because all the suspects were arrested on the same day in different locations in South Denpasar.

The NU suspect was arrested in the Benoa Harbor area at around 12.45 WITA. Furthermore, the IS, DH and DR suspects were arrested at a boarding house on Jalan Tukad Badung at around 13.30 WITA.

Meanwhile, suspect SA was arrested on Jalan Batas Dukuh Sari at around 14.45 WITA.

"For the motive itself, these perpetrators are vengeful because the victim often bothers the perpetrators, even to the point of threatening to kill," said Agus.

In the incident, the police confiscated a number of evidence, including the victim's clothes, stones, wooden beams, a plastic bottle containing burning gasoline, the perpetrator's mobile phone, a jacket, and shoes that were also burned.

Caused by alcohol

Based on the results of the investigation, the incident began when the two victims along with a colleague were drinking alcohol (miras) at the Benoa Port Pier.

"In a state of being influenced by alcohol, the victim contacted one of the perpetrators through a video call and threatened to kill him," said Agus.

Agus explained that after the mutual confrontation, the two victims and their colleagues searched for the perpetrators until they finally met at the scene.

During the meeting, the perpetrators, who numbered five people, came on a motorcycle and immediately attacked the victim.

Repeatedly cheated.

The victim was repeatedly abused using bare hands, stones, and wooden beams until he fell down helplessly.

The victim's colleague with the initials B managed to escape and hide from the scene.

However, the perpetrators returned to the location about half an hour later and again attacked the victim who was already in a weak condition.

The two victims were then doused with gasoline and set on fire by the perpetrators before being left at the location.

As a result of the incident, both victims died with the condition of partially burned bodies.

For their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 468 paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
